The upcoming second instalment of Freaky Friday has now been titled Freakier Friday. The announcement was made official by the lead actors Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan at the D23 Expo.
"It’s more fun, it’s more emotional, and it’s all for you guys," Lohan told the audience. "Seriously, the only reason we are back here doing this because of your love. That is why." Curtis added, "It feels like picking up where we left off, which is really beautiful."
A first look for the film was also revealed during the event where Lohan and Curtis are seen screaming after they realise that their bodies have been swapped.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are returning to reprise their roles as mother and daughter in the upcoming sequel. Returning cast members also include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao.
New cast members who have joined the sequel are Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Jordan E Cooper, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons.
Ganatra is directing the sequel from a script by Jordan Weiss. Freakier Friday is produced by Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr. The sequel, which went on floors in June, will reportedly see Lohan reprising her role as Anna, who now has a daughter of her own and will soon have a stepdaughter. The official description of Freakier Friday reads, "As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess (Curtis) and Anna discover the lightning might indeed strike twice."
Although Disney has yet to announce a release date for Freakier Friday, it has confirmed a theatrical release will take place in 2025.
