Charles Cyphers, the actor who played Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the Halloween franchise, passed away on Sunday in Tucson, Arizona, after an illness. Cyphers was 85. His manager, Chris Roe, confirmed the sad news. Describing the actor as "a lovable and sensitive man," Roe said, "He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client on many years who will be dearly missed."

Cyphers first appeared as Sheriff Brackett in John Carpenter's groundbreaking 1978 horror film Halloween, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead role. He reprised the role in the 1981 sequel Halloween II and the 2021 revival Halloween Kills.

Prior to his Halloween fame, Cyphers collaborated with Carpenter on the 1976 action classic Assault on Precinct 13, where he played a cop named Starker. Cyphers and Carpenter's partnership continued with The Fog (1980) and the cult favorite Escape From New York (1981).

Nancy Kyes, who starred alongside Cyphers in Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, and The Fog, said, "So sorry to hear about dear Chuck. My friend of many years, he could always be relied on for a kind word, a good laugh and a great story. How he will be missed."
