Edward Berger's The Ballad Of A Small Player to be headlined by Colin Farrel

All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger is all set to helm a film for Netflix titled The Ballad of A Small Player. The streamer has roped in Colin Farrel to play the lead role in the film, which is based on a novel by Lawrence Osborne.

Rowan Joffe has adapted the script for The Ballad of A Small Player which is set to be produced by Mike Goodridge for Good Chaos along with Berger for Nine Hours and Matthew James Wilkinson.

The Ballad Of A Small Player will portray a gambler on the run who hides in Macau to escape his past and gambling debts. There, he meets a kindred spirit who could be the answer to all his problems. The shoot for the film is expected to begin later this year.

Farrel, who received an Oscar nomination for The Banshees of Inisherin, recently played a voice role in the short film The Spaceman. He is currently filming for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey helmed by Kogonada and co-starring Margot Robbie. He also awaits the release of The Penguin, which is based on the DC villain of the same name.

Berger's All Quiet on the Western Front bagged four Oscars in 2022, including, Best International Feature Film, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Cinematography, and was nominated in 9 categories in total. The filmmaker is currently working on a thriller film, Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and John Lithgow in the lead.
