Don Hertzfeldt confirms his collaboration with Ari Aster

Hertzfeldt spoke about his upcoming collaboration with Ari Aster at the Overlook Film Festival

Animator Don Hertzfeldt confirmed that he and Ari Aster are working on a new project. Speaking about it at the Overlook Film Festival, Hertzfeldt said that it would be a "big/expensive project that I have been developing and trying to get made for the last 15 years." He also called it a horror film, "in the same way his existentialist shorts are often seen as such." A journalist named Carlos Aguilar was the first to break the news.

It is not known whether Aster is producing or directing it. The specifics of the plot and cast are also unknown as yet.

Aster recently wrote, produced, and directed Beau is Afraid, a surrealist animation feature that offers a blend of tragicomedy and horror. On the other hand, Hertzfeldt's latest work is a short film titled ME, which premiered at the aforesaid festival.
