Following recent rumours about Jim Carrey reportedly reprising his iconic role as the Grinch in an upcoming movie, the Golden Globe winner immediately addressed them in a recent statement.

As per People, Carrey has debunked the rumours with a statement released through his rep. The statement merely noted, "There is no truth to Jim reprising his role as the Grinch in a sequel to The Grinch."

This rumour about Grinch 2 is related to Carrey's earlier announcement that he will be retiring from acting after playing Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2022. It's not yet known if he will play the villain again in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

In November 2000, Universal Pictures released an adaption of Dr. Seuss's 1957 book, in which Carrey, aged 61, portrayed the Grinch. Carrey, dressed entirely in green fur, played the Grinch, a man determined to spoil the holidays for the people of Whoville. Ron Howard directed the film.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas also starred Taylor Momsen, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon and Anthony Hopkins, who narrated the movie.

Following that, Benedict Cumberbatch voiced the lead role in Illumination and Universal's 2018 animated adaptation of the story, Dr. Seuss' The Grinch.
