Eddie Murphy in talks to lead The Pink Panther film

Actor Eddie Murphy is in talks to play the role of Inspector Clouseau in the upcoming Pink Panther film.

Jeff Fowler, who previously helmed Sonic the Hedgehog, will direct the reboot. The film will be written by Chris Bremner while it is backed by Dan Lin, Jonathan Eirich, Larry Mirisch and Julie Andrews.

Began in 1963, The Pink Panther franchise started off with the 1963 comedy film starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau. The actor reprised his role in several reboots. Subsequently, actors Alan Arkin, Roger Moore, Steve Martin and others took up the role. The Pink Panther revolved around the French police detective and the case of a pink diamond which is at the centre of a heist.

Meanwhile, Eddie was recently seen in You People, a Netflix film.
