We previously reported that Disney was all set to move forward with Tron 3 after suffering recurring setbacks, with Jared Leto as the lead. The filming for Tron 3 is all set to begin on July 3, the makers announced.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil director Joachim Ronning will direct the film. Nominally titled, Tron: Ares, the film is written by Jesse Wigutow, and is the latest instalment of the franchise that began in 1982 with the groundbreaking Tron starring Jeff Bridges, and the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy, which starred Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.

Jared Leto first plugged into a third Tron movie in 2017 as one of the cast and as producer, and he’s remained attached ever since. Garth Davis, who directed Lion(2016), was signed on to helm the movie in 2020, but he ultimately parted ways with the project.

Besides Leto, Justin Springer, Jeffrey Silver and Emma Ludbrook are also producing the project.
