Johnny Depp's Jeanne Du Barry receives standing ovation at Cannes

The film marks Depp's most high-profile acting role since the conclusion of his 2022 legal battle against ex-wife Amber Heard

Johnny Depp starrer Jeanne Du Barry was premiered as the opening film at the recently commenced 76th chapter of the annual Cannes Film Festival, and the actor received an ecstatic seven-minute standing ovation after the film's screening. 
 
Johnny Depp hasn't appeared in public since his protracted 2022 legal battle with ex-girlfriend Amber Heard. Directed by Maïwen, Jeanne Du Barry marks Depp's first appearance after the brief hiatus. While Maïwen plays the eponymous character, Depp essays the role of  King Louis XV. 

The film tells the story of the eponymous character's journey from a working-class woman in 18th-century France to being the lover of King Louis XV. Apart from Maïwen and Depp, Jeanne Du Barry also stars  Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud and Pascal Greggory, among others.
