HBO dropped the trailer of the animated fantasy comedy series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai on Wednesday. The film is served as the prequel to the 1984 classic film Gremlins. The series, which is set in 1920s China, tells the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing met Gizmo, a young Mogwai and their journey back to Sam's home to his people.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai features an ensemble cast including Izaac Wang, AJ LoCascio, Gabrielle Nevaeh,  Matthew Rhys, James Hong,  B D Wong, Ming-Na Wen, Sandra Oh, Randall Park, George Takei, and Bowen Yang. 

Developed by Tze Chun, the series has veteran filmmaker Steven Spielberg as the executive producer along with Tze Chun. The series is also executive produced by Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Sam Register, and Brendan Hay. Dan Krall is the supervising producer, while Joe Dante serves as consulting producer.

The series will premiere on Max on May 23 with two episodes.
