Earlier, we had reported that Johhny Depp would be helming a biopic titled Modi about the prolific Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani. The latest update is that veteran actor Al Pacino has been roped into the cast. The film also features Riccardo Scamarcio and Pierre Niney in prominent roles.

Modi is based on a stage play written by Dennis McIntyre, and it was adapted for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. The film follows the artist’s life while he was struggling to make a living in Paris in 1916. The story focuses on the events that transpire during a 48-hour window that changes his life and cements his place in history as an artistic genius.

Scamarcio will play Modigliani, while Niney will be essaying the French artist Maurice Utrillo. Pacino will appear as the art collector who could change Modigliani's life.

The film is backed by Depp’s European production company, IN.2 Films, and producer Barry Navidi. The film will go on floors later this year.
