We had previously reported that an action comedy titled Grand Death Lotto is in works with director Paul Feig and starring John Cena, Awkwafina and Simu Liu. The makers have now announced that project has gone on floors, while releasing a first look of sorts from the sets.

In addition to these actors, the film will also feature Ayden Mayeri, Seann William Scott, Dolly de Leo, and Donald Elise Watkins as supporting cast as well.

The Amazon Original film is set in an economically challenged California in the very near future. A grand lottery is established in the city. The catch, however, is that if the winner of the lottery can be killed by sundown, the killer can legally claim the prize as theirs.

Awkwafina will play LA transplant Katie who accidentally ends up winning the ticket, becoming a target. She makes a run for her life to make it to sundown with the help of amateur jackpot protector Noel, played by Cena. She is pursued by Louis Lewis, who wants to claim his rich protection commission by killing Katie.

Rob Yescombe has written the script of the film with Feigo Entertainment and Roth/Kirschenbaum Films backing it. A release date of the film is yet to be announced.
