We had earlier reported that Matt Johnson is helming a film titled BlackBerry which will detail the rise and fall of the titular brand gadget. The makers have now released the trailer of the docudrama. The film stars Jay Baruchel as Mike Lazaridis, founder of BlackBerry.

The trailer shows Mike and his friend Douglas Fregin who come up with the idea of changing communication. While they meet with some unfortunate circumstances, it leads to Mike selling a sizeable portion of his brand to capitalist Jim Balsillie.

While Matt Johnson plays Douglas, Glenn Howerton plays Jim Balsillie, the film also stars Cary Elwes, Saul Rubinek, Rich Sommer, Martin Donovan, among others. The film is based on Jacquie McNish's book Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry. With script by Matthew Miller, the film had its world premiere at Berlin Film Festival.

BlackBerry will release in theatres on May 12.
