Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio's co-director Mark Gustafson to develop animated series Milepost 88

The co-director of Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, Mark Gustafson, will be developing a new animated mystery series Milepost 88. Animation studio ShadowMachine, which was co-founded by Gustafson along with Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico, will be developing the new project, and the trio will also serve as the executive producers of the series. ShadowMachine also worked behind Pinnochio.

According to Deadline, Milepost 88 is based on an original idea from  Mark Gustafson. The series tells the story of two brothers who run a gas station, and their life turns upside down after a stranger unlocks a mystery involving their family history. 

Mark Gustafson's co-directorial venture Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio won Best Animated Feature Award at the 95th Oscar ceremony. His other popular work credits include The PJs and Mr Resistor. He was also the animation director for Wes Anderson's Oscar-nominated stop-animation film Fantastic Mr Fox.

Meanwhile, ShadowMachine is currently developing Del Toro’s next animated feature film, The Buried Giant, based on the fantasy novel by author Kazuo Ishiguro, for Netflix. The studio's other credits include BoJack Horseman, Robot Chicken, Final Space, Tuca & Bertie and Clone High reboot.
