Ruth Carter has bagged the Oscars for Best Costume Design, for working in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

She becomes the first black woman to get two Oscar awards, as she had previously won under the same category for her contributions for Black Panther in 2019.

Dedicating the award to her mother she said,"Thank you to the academy for recognising a superhero who is a black woman. She endures, she loves, she overcomes, she is every woman in this film. She is my mother. This past week, Maybelle Carter became an ancestor. This film prepared me for this moment." She went on to thank Ryan Coogler and producer Nate Moore,"Together we are reshaping how culture is represented. I share this with many dedicated artists whose hands and hearts helped manifest the costumes of Wakanda."

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had its theatrical release on November 11. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the Marvel sequel takes place following the death of Chadwick Boseman’s King T’Challa with the people of Wakanda grieving his loss and searching for a way for their kingdom to endure. The film stars Angella Bassett, Dominique Thorne, Tenoch Huerta Mejia and Lupita Nyong'o.
