Oscars 2023: Avatar: The Way of Water wins Best Visual Effects

The 95th Academy Award for the best visual effects goes to Avatar: The Way of Water. The award was received by the film’s visual effects team members Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett. Earlier in the ceremony, it was announced that James Cameron will not be attending the awards function due to personal reasons

Other films in the nominations under this category include Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and All Quiet On the Western. The visual effects on Avatar: The Way of Water, which included a number of photorealistic underwater shots, was done by WetaFX, a division of the acclaimed Weta Digital. 

The film is based on a screenplay that director James Cameron co-wrote with Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver while the story is written by Cameron along with Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno. 

The cast of the film includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, and Matt Gerald along with Sigourney Weaver. Avatar 3, 4, 5 are already confirmed to be in production.
