With a few weeks since the release of Disney's live action adaptation, The Little Mermaid's release, the studio will be working on a new animated series of the story. The project will be made for Disney Junior and the announcement was made during the Annecy Animation Festival.

The Little Mermaid follows the adventure of mermaid Ariel, who aspires to see the life beyond the sea. Besides featuring King Triton, Ursula, Sebastian, and Flounder, the animated series will also feature new characters and set against the Caribbean-inspired underwater kingdom.

“For more than 30 years, the story of The Little Mermaid has been beloved by audiences all over the world. It brings me so much joy to be able to introduce our new Disney Junior version of Ariel to preschoolers everywhere," President of Disney Branded Television Ayo Davis was quoted as saying.

The series will release in 2024.
