The Wire actor Al Brown passes away

Al Brown, who was known for his role as Col. Stan Valchek in The Wire, passed away on Friday. The 83-year-old actor passed away after a long-standing battle with Alzheimer’s disease, his daughter Jenny announced on Saturday.

In David Simon’s The Wire, Al played the role of the police commissioner for the Baltimore Police Department. Apart from The Wire, Al also made appearances in other shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Hustler, Maron, Commander in Chief, Rescue Me, Forensic Files, and The F.B.I. Files

On the film side, Al played a small role in 12 Monkeys as a policeman. He also acted in films like Red Dragon, Liberty Heights, The Replacements, and Shot in the Heart, among others. Before he started his acting career in the 90s Al served in the U.S. Air Force for two tours in Vietnam.
