Filmmaker James Cameron has said that Avatar: The Way of Water will break even at the box office and generate profit required to make the remaining sequels in the franchise.

While speaking in the latest episode of HBO Max's Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, Variety quoted James as saying, "It looks like with the momentum that the film has now that we’ll easily pass our break even in the next few days, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this and I’m gonna have to do these other sequels. I know what I’m going to be doing the next six or seven years.”

It is to be noted that earlier James had mentioned that he has a plan in mind to make various installments of Avatar, but to make them, Avatar: The Way of Water should be so profitable that it should one of the highest grossing films of all time, just so that it breaks even.

James added, "The point is we’re going to be okay. I’m sure that we’ll have a discussion soon with with the top folks at Disney about the game plan going forward." The filmmaker mentioned that while Avatar 3 is already shot and has to enter the post-production phase, the fourth and fifth part are also written, with some parts of the fourth also shot.

The filmmaker had said that the third installment of Avatar will show the darker side of Na'vi, the race of extraterrestrial humanoids who live in Pandora. While the first two Avatar films centred on conflicts between Na'vi tribes and humans, it is speculated that the third film will find Na'vi facing off against Na'vi for the first time in the franchise.
