Last year in October, the makers of The Conjuring franchise announced that the fourth film is in the works. James Wan, who started the franchise in 2013, is back to produce the film along with Peter Safran. The fourth instalment is said to revolve around a ghost-hunting power couple played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson.

Recently, in a conversation with Collider, James Wan revealed that they are working on the project right now and since this franchise is close to their heart, the creative team is very mindful in crafting the story about Ed and Lorraine Warren. When asked if this will be the last film in the franchise, he said, "We never Know. You never know. We'll see."

While David Leslie and Johnson-McGoldrick are penning the script for the film, the film's director has not been finalised yet. It may be noted that Johnson-McGoldrick wrote The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
