It was earlier reported that Netflix has been developing a live-action series adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, the popular video game franchise. Screenwriter Jeb Stuart, known for writing films like The Fugitive, Die Hard, and the recent Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla was brought on board as the series showrunner.

It has now been confirmed that Stuart is no longer attached to the project. In a conversation with Collider, the screenwriter revealed the reason for his exit as follows: "I think it was a little bit of a move of executives from LA to London, and it allowed the London group who, unfortunately, had to inherit my vision of what it was instead of getting to develop their own vision. So I think that's fair. I know it's going to be great whenever it comes out. I think the Ubisoft guys are fantastic. I think it's a terrific franchise. It was just a good, mutual time to move on for both sides."

Described as an epic, “genre-bending live-action adaptation,” the live-action adaptation of the series was announced in September 2022. Ubisoft Film and Television is developing the series alongside Netflix. Assassin’s Creed is an award-winning RPG video game series that started in 2007 and spawned several successful sequels since then.
