Misha Green, the creator of Lovecraft Country is all set to make her feature directorial debut with Sunflower starring Jurnee Smollett in the lead. The film will narrate the thrilling tale of two women imprisoned on a remote sunflower farm by an unhinged college professor. The film will cover their attempt at escaping from the abduction.

Green, known as the writer for Anarchy, Spartacus and Heroes, created her own series with WGN's Underground. When it was cancelled after two seasons, she adapted Lovecraft Country, a horror novel written by Matt Ruff, for HBO. She not only wrote and produced the series but also made her directorial debut on television with the show's eighth episode. Although it was widely acclaimed and she earned an Emmy nomination for her scripts, HBO decided against renewing the series for a second season. The Mother, an action thriller starring Jennifer Lopez, and written by Misha Green, will be out on Netflix in May.

Both Underground and Lovecraft Country starred Jurnee Smollett, with whom she is all set to reunite. Smollet, who began her career as a child actor, earned acclaim and an Emmy nomination for her performance in Lovecraft Country

Sunflower will be produced by Misha Green and Craig Flores, while Meredith Wieck and Aaron Edmonds will oversee the project at Lionsgate. The film is expected to begin production this summer.
