Xolo Mariduena on how his mother helped him for Blue Beetle role

Actor Xolo Maridueña, who will be portraying the lead titular role in the upcoming superhero film Blue Beetle, opened up about working in the film and said how his mother aided him to prepare for his role, by raising him with comic books.

Speaking about his role to People magazine, he said, "I personally was not a huge comic book reader. But my mother, who helped raise me and was reading me bedtime stories at night, definitely was reading comic books instead of, you know, Goodnight Moon."

The actor also added how she used to work to buy comic books, through which he was introduced to Blue Beetle. He further went to add how landing on a superhero role is not a common opportunity and that it was one of the things he had to come in terms with when he was cast.

Blue Beetle is set to release on August 18 and will follow central character Jamie Raynes who comes into contact with ancient artifact Scarab, enabling him to superpowers.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film is based on the script written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The film also stars an ensemble cast including Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Elpidia Carrillo, Raoul Trujillo, Damián Alcázar, and Susan Sarandon.
