The Little Mermaid gets streaming date

The film stars Halle Bailey in the lead titular role

CE Features

The Little Mermaid, the latest live-action adaptation of the fairy tale which released in theatres in May, will be available for streaming on Disney+ from September 6. The film stars Halle Bailey in the lead titular role, and opened to decent box office collection and average reviews.

Apart from Halle Bailey, the film also stars Jude Akuwudike, Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Simone Ashley, Noma Dumezwani, Russell Balogh, and Jessica Alexander, among others.

Sticking much to the original, The Little Mermaid follows the life of mermaid princess Ariel, who is so much eager to explore the land beyond the ocean floor. As she saves a prince from shipwreck, Ariel embarks on a journey by trading her voice in lieu for legs.

The Little Mermaid, could serve as a visual treat to children who might consume it for the colourful frames, but does it warrant a live-action adaptation, when the original was iconic as it is? Well, that's a question for adapters to ponder upon,” reads CE’s review of the film.

Rob Marshall helmed The Little Mermaid with a screenplay by Jane Goldman and David Magee. Alan Menken is the composer. Walt Disney Pictures, Marc Platt Productions, Lucamar Productions, and 5000 Broadway Productions backed the film.
