The third instalment in the A24's X franchise, MaXXXine's filming commenced. The franchise has been headlined by Mia Goth and is helmed by Ti West, who previously helmed the first two films, X and Pearl, in the franchise. X franchise marks A24's first major horror franchise. A24 announced the commencement of the shooting through their Twitter handle by sharing a picture of a car's number plate, encrypted with the film's name.

Besides Mia Goth, the film features an ensemble cast including Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.

X, set in the early 70s, features Mia Goth in a double role, a young adult film star Maxine and an older woman, Pearl. Maxine witnesses the death of her friends, who are killed by Pearl. The next instalment, prequel Pearl, is set in early 1918 and showcases the life of Pearl. MaXXXine follows Maxine's story after X's violent events.
