Period drama Monstrous Beauty casts Bella Ramsey in the lead

Ramsey will play the role of an aspiring playwright who wants to be a part of King Charles II’s court. But she suffers from a rare condition that covers her entire body with hair

Bella Ramsey, who was last seen in the HBO hit series The Last of Us, has been cast as the lead in the upcoming period drama film Monstrous Beauty. Fiona Shaw, Ruth Negga and Dominic West are also part of the cast list.

Ramsey will play the role of an aspiring playwright who wants to be a part of King Charles II’s court. But she suffers from a rare condition that covers her entire body with hair. The film will be helmed by British actor and filmmaker Romola Garai who has also written the screenplay for the film. The Golden Globe nominated actor has appeared in films like Vanity Fair , As You Like It, Amazing Grace, Atonement, Glorious 39, and Suffragette. According to reports, the film will be a heavily fictionalised version of real historical facts. 

Matthew James Wilkinson will be producing the film under the banner Stigma films. The production of the film is set to begin in early September this year.
