At the D23 expo that took place on Friday, Disney released the first look teaser for their upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The upcoming remake will follow Disney's latest trend of remaking celebrated animated films into CGI live-action. Disney had earlier remade The Lion King in 2019 while the Pinnochio remake starring Tom Hanks has just released recently.

Singer/Actor Halle Bailey will reportedly play the role of Ariel in the film. She will be joined by cast members Jonah Hauer-King, Art Malik, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Daveed Diggs, and Jacob Tremblay. Awkwafina will lend her voice to Scuttle, a diving bird who befriends Ariel.

The short teaser gives us a stunning look into the underwater world that was crafted for the film. Ariel, in her iconic red hair, sings the famous Part of Your World song as she gracefully swims up to take a look at the sun.

The film will be directed by Rob Marshall, known for directing films like Memoirs Of A Geisha, Mary Poppins Returns, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The film is currently scheduled to release on 26 May 2023.
