Alexandre Desplat to score Greta Gerwig’s Barbie

Filmmaker Noah Baumbach, known for directing films like Marriage Story, is reportedly co-writing the screenplay for the film along with the director

Alexandre Desplat is reportedly composing the music for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film Barbie. The composer is best known for scoring films like The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, The Queen, The Shape of Water, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The live-action film is based on the famous toy line manufactured by Mattel. The director-composer combo had previously collaborated on 2019’s Little Women, an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel of the same name.

Filmmaker Noah Baumbach, known for directing films like Marriage Story, is reportedly co-writing the screenplay for the film along with the director. The film stars Margot Robbie as Barbie while Ryan Gosling plays Ken. The film also stars Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, and America Ferrera in supporting roles. 

Robbie is producing the film under her LuckyChap Entertainment along with Mattel Films and Heyday Films. The film is currently scheduled to release on 21 July 2023.
