Jamie Foxx has been reportedly cast as the lead in the upcoming Spawn reboot. Scott Silver and Malcolm Spellman have been brought on board to write the film. Malcolm Spellman is known for writing the Disney+ show Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he is also writing the upcoming Captain America film starring Anthony Mackie in the lead. Scott Silver is credited as a writer in the 2019 film Joker, he is also attached to the sequel for the film titled Joker: Folie à Deux.

Spawn is based on the comic book character of the same name written by Todd McFarlane. Spawn is an antihero with superpowers and was one of the earliest characters to emerge from Image Comics publications.

Although Todd McFarlane was earlier rumoured to direct the film, he denied the reports and further added that they are considering A-list names for the project. Spawn was first adapted into a feature-length film in 1997, which was universally panned by critics and received poor box office reception.
