In an interview with Empire magazine, co-writer Christopher Miller talked about what we could expect from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to the hit 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. In the first glimpse video that was released almost a year ago, we see Miles Morales tumbling through different universes, one of which happens to be an alternate version of Mumbai, during which a dialogue box popped up with “thwump” written in Hindi, in the fashion of a comic book.

According to Chris Miller, the Spider-Verse film crew is calling the Indian Spider-Man’s earth Mumbattan, which is apparently a combination of Mumbai and Manhattan. According to the official Marvel comics lore, an Indian version of Spiderman exists on Earth-50101 and goes by the name of Pavitr Prabhakar.

It is unclear at the moment whether Across the Spider-Verse will feature the Indian Spiderman. Chris Miller also mentioned that while the first film was lauded for its ingenious new style of animation that emulated hand-drawn animation at certain places, Across the Spider-Verse will feature six different art styles. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently scheduled to release on 2 June 2023.
