The Dune spinoff prequel series titled Dune: The Sisterhood has begun filming in Budapest. Johan Renck, who will be directing the first two episodes of the series, announced the commencement of the shoot through an Instagram post. He is best known for winning Emmy awards for directing five episodes of Chernobyl. 

Renck announced the beginning of production by posting an image of Frank Herbert’s original novel with a caption that reads, “Through machinations taking place millenia before the story you all know, we descend into the coven that one day shall be named the Bene Gesserit,”

The series is set in the world created by Denis Villeneuve for his 2021 adaptation of the Dune novel and takes place thousands of years before the events of the film. Dune: The Sisterhood will follow the origins of an all-woman group of powerful individuals who go by the name of Bene Gesserit. 

Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson will play the lead roles in the prequel series while the rest of the cast also includes Indira Varma, Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Chloe Lea. 

The show is expected to release after Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, which is scheduled to release on 3 November 2023
