A24, known for producing modern horror classics like Midsommar and Hereditary, has released a trailer for their upcoming film Pearl. The slasher thriller is reported to be a prequel to their 2022 film X.

The film explores the origins of Mia Goth’s role from X known as Pearl. Tia West, who directed the original, returns to direct the prequel while also co-writing the film with the lead actor Mia Goth. 

The trailer shows us a chilling glimpse into Pearl’s younger years as she starts dipping her toes into her psychopathic proclivities. A24 had earlier shared a first-look poster for the film on Twitter, which was promptly followed with a trailer. 

Actor Mia Goth previously appeared in the Suspiria remake and Gore Verbinski’s A Cure for Wellness. Joining Mia Goth for the prequel are David Corenswet, Howard Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro.

Director Tia West has announced his desire to expand the franchise with more sequels to the original film X. The slasher film is confirmed to have a US theatrical release on 23 September 2022.
