At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel showed us the first trailer for their upcoming sequel to Shazam! Titled Shazam: Fury of the Gods. In the trailer, the young Billy Batson who turns into the adult superhero Shazam is seen ruminating about his imposter syndrome in a world populated by other super-powered vigilantes.

The film, which stars Zachary Levi as Shazam, is directed by David F Sandberg who also made the original. The film will feature Shazam’s family who were seen getting powers themselves by the end of the first film. Joining Zachary Levi in the cast are Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu.

Warner Bros. Pictures is preparing the film for a worldwide theatrical release while scheduling it for a streaming release on HBO max. Shazam: Fury of the Gods is bringing Lucy Liu and veteran actor Helen Mirren into the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) as antagonists. The film is set to release on 21 December 2022.

Black Adam, who is the arch-nemesis of Shazam in the comics, is also making his feature film debut this year starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the titular role. It is unclear, at the moment, whether Black Adam will appear in the Shazam sequel. The makers of Black Adam also released their trailer at SDCC, announcing a release date of 21 October 2022.
