Steven Knight, best known for creating the period gangster drama Peaky Blinders, had written a story treatment for Man of Steel 2 but it had reportedly failed to impress the Warner Bros executives. He had submitted his vision for the Superman sequel to the studio heads during the first half of this year.

Before he could come up with a revised draft for the film, a sea of changes had come and gone at the top level at DC Studios. After James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought on board to reshape the future of DC projects, a number of in-development projects were axed and new ones are being formulated.

Eventhough Gunn and Safran are yet to submit their full multi-year plan to Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav, reports are already pouring in about cancelled projects. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 is no more in development, Henry Cavill’s future as Superman is currently under murky waters, and plans to make a sequel to Black Adam have been halted. According to reports, the Aquaman franchise will also be wrapped after the upcoming sequel, and Jason Momoa will be recast in the role of another DC superhero: Lobo. Speculations state that the plan to end the Aquaman franchise could be due to the controversies surrounding Amber Hear who plays Mera in the film.
