Matt Shakman, known for directing episodes of TV shows like WandaVision, Game of Thrones, Fargo, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is reportedly in talks to direct Fantastic Four. The filmmaker recently exited Paramount Pictures’ Star Trek 4, the film stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as Captain Kirk and Spock respectively.

Jon Watts, known for directing Spiderman: No Way Home, was previously attached to direct the Fantastic Four, before dropping out of the project in April. The Fantastic Four film is set to be an addition to phase 6 of the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Currently going through the early stages of development, the ensemble superhero film is expected to release on 8 November 2024.

It is unsure whether the film will explore the origins of the characters or if it will jump straight into their world-saving adventures. The film is essentially a reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise, the last installment being the 2015 film directed by Josh Trank. The announcement of the film was made after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, following which the rights for the characters reverted back to Marvel Studios.
