The highly anticipated sequel to Godzilla vs Kong is headed to a 15 March 2024 release. Warner Bros announced that the untitled sequel will expand upon the monsterverse mythology with new threats and monsters. The sequel will reportedly show the origins of Skull Island, inhabited by the giant monsters. The untitled film will also see Godzilla and Kong team up to fight a mystery monster that resides beneath the ocean.

The first film, Godzilla V Kong, which was released in 2021 saw the monsters clashing with fan favourite MechaGodzilla, a robotic version of Godzilla created by a giant evil corporation. The studio is still keen on developing interconnected stories under the Monsterverse banner. Adam Wingard, who directed the first film, is returning to direct the sequel. The story for the film is written by Terry Rossio, who has writing credits on the Disney+ Marvel show Moonknight.
