All Quiet on the Western Front, an adaptation of the book of the same name is all set to premiere on Netflix on October 28. Set in World War I, the book tells the story of German soldiers and their plight during the war that all but destroyed the country.

The book is lauded for its realistic portrayal of war and how it adversely affects the mental state of soldiers who were thrown into it, it speaks about the degradation of society following blind nationalism and still stands today as notable anti-war literature.

The book had earlier received a feature-length adaptation under the same name. Directed by Lewis Milestone, the film was released in 1930 and went on to win an Academy Award. The film and the book received critical attention from a German perspective following the harrowing events of World War II and Germany’s role in the war. The 2022 film is the first time the story will be reimagined through the lens of a German filmmaker.

Directed by Edward Berger, the film stars Daniel Brühl, Albrecht Schuch, Sebastian Hülk, Felix Kammerer, Aaron Hilmer, Edin Hasanovic and Devid Striesow.
