Universal Pictures announced on Friday that they are working on a fourth instalment in the Kung Fu Panda series. The beloved animated film franchise will return to theatres on 8 March 2024.  The Kung Fu Panda series, developed by DreamWorks Animation, released the first film in 2008 and ended its trilogy in 2016. The CGI animated film series received critical as well as commercial praise, quickly expanding into television series, games, and theme park attractions.

The film stars Jack Black in the lead, playing the titular panda Po Ping. Joining him in the ensemble cast are A-listers Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu,  David Cross, and Jackie Chan. The first Kung Fu Panda film went on to become the highest-grossing original animated film at the time, with a reported $631 million earned at the box office.

The makers are tight-lipped about the plot, director, and whether the original cast is returning for the fourth film. The trilogy followed Po’s adventures, dealing with the panda’s insecurities, him reconciling with his past, and eventually reconnecting with his long-lost family.
