Daniel Radcliffe’s upcoming biopic on singer Weird Al Yankovic is to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is getting its world premiere on the opening night of the film festival on 8th September. Ti West’s prequel to his indie slasher film X titled Pearl is also premiering at the festival on the same day.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is directed by Eric Appel who also co-wrote it with Weird Al Yankovic. The film tells the story of the eccentric singer and songwriter, who rose to worldwide prominence with his parodies of famous pop songs. Written in similar vein to Weird Al’s parody videos, the film will spoof the familiar tropes of biopics by showing the singer's rise to fame as being far more controversial and exciting than it actually was in real life. There are times when his humorous music videos have become bigger hits than the originals themselves.

The makers of the film officially announced the film back in January 2022 along with Daniel Radcliffe attached to play Weird Al Yankovic. The rest of the cast includes Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, Toby Huss, Julianne Nicholson, and Quinta Brunson.
