Marvel likely to greenlight the Eternals sequel

Despite the mixed reviews for Marvel’s Eternals, reports state that the film might get a sequel. Director Chloé Zhao who directed the original is also expected to return for the sequel. Marvel announced a slew of films and television shows at the recently wrapped San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced his plans for phases 5 and 6. Despite his silence about the future of the Eternals, reports are emerging about Marvel’s willingness to go ahead with a sequel.

Eternals is based on characters from Marvel comics. The film follows a group of immortal superheroes who get back together after years of being in hiding to face an emerging threat that might destroy the planet. The film opened to heavily mixed reviews, which is unusual for an MCU film. Nevertheless, the film was lauded for its stylistic cinematic choices and LGBTQ representation. 

The Eternals had an ensemble cast that included Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, and Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. The film received a worldwide theatrical release on 5 November 2021.
