A Whitney Houston biopic titled I Wanna Dance With Somebody has been in development for some time now, with Naomi Ackie portraying the legendary pop icon. Now, the project has added actor Ashton Sanders to its cast.

The film will be directed by Kasi Lemmons and has a screenplay by Bohemian Rhapsody writer Anthony McCarten.

The biopic will follow the life story of the late iconic artist behind hits like I Will Always Love You and How Will I Know. Houston, who won six Grammys in her musical career, made her acting debut with the 1992 blockbuster hit The Bodyguard. She also recorded six songs for the film’s soundtrack, including I Will Always Love You.

Sanders is set to play the role of Bobby Brown, Houston's ex-husband.

The news comes just in time as it is been reported that Black Label Media has come on board to co-finance the film with Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave Music.

Sony and TriStar Pictures will release I Wanna Dance With Somebody in theatres on December 23, 2022.
