First Clap final five shorts to be screened from June 29

Season 2 of the short film contest, First Clap, a venture by Movie Buff in collaboration with 2D Entertainment and Knack Studios, which received over 750 entries, has shortlisted the final five shorts that will get screened across 200 theatres in the state from June 29. 

The competition, created to identify potential filmmakers, was a great success in its first iteration, with 250 entries and the winning short films were screened across 170 theatres in 40 cities. The second season announced on Jan 20 2018, will see the final five - Kukkarukku Whistle Podu, Kalki, Kambalipoochi, Mayir, Peraarvam - screened on a rotational basis over five weeks starting from this Friday. 

Kukkarukku Whistle Podu, directed by Shyam Sundar, is a political satire; Kalki is a story of religious harmony, directed by Vishnu Edavan; Kambalipoochi, directed by VG Balasubramanian, is the story of a bride confronting her childhood abuser; Mayir is a dark comedy about hair transplant and farmer suicide, directed by Logi; and Peraarvam, directed by Baval Kumar, is the story of a 50-year-old filmmaker who is in search of a producer. The winners of the first three places as chosen by the audience will get Rs 3, 2 and 1 lakh, respectively, as prize money.

2-D Entertainment's Rajasekar says, "I was so impressed with not just these five films, but with all the 50 films which we originally shortlisted and chose these from. My office doors are open for narrations from all these filmmakers and I hope to listen to all of them in the coming days."
