Pawan to make a film on a real-life grandmaster-in-the-making
Director is attempting his first real-life story of a potential chess player, and he is helping the young lad to become a grandmaster
With successful films like Lucia and U-Turn in his kitty, Pawan Kumar seems to now find inspiration from a real life chess player who he says has the potential to become a grandmaster. After a two-hour conversation with the upcoming chess player and his mother a year ago, the filmmaker is not only endorsing the grandmaster-in-the-making by supporting him to get the required funds, he is also preparing a script before the aspiring player achieves his dream.
Without revealing the youngster’s name, Pawan has succeeded in getting funds for the chess player after his posts on social media, and a company is even coming forward to sponsor his aspiration. The director, along with his team, is now following the chess player’s life, in preparation of the script.
“The idea was interesting because he has the potential, even though there was no encouragement. His journey is very inspiring, especially at his young age. The twist is the support coming from unknown people of Karnataka. So, it is worth documenting,” says the director.
It is also unusual that Pawan sees enough promise in the story that he has decided to wait for the ultimate success to come through. “The story will happen only when he becomes a grandmaster, and I am confident. I have formed a team, which is researching on his young life, and this story is something that I am very keen on,” he says.
