Noted producer and distributor G Dhananjheyan weighed in on the censor woes faced by Vijay's Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi and laid down his "clear message" for filmmakers and producers in the South Indian industry a smooth process at the CBFC. Taking to his X handle, Dhananjheyan urged makers to not announce a release date without having the censor certificate in hand.
He requested them to apply for their censor certificates 45-60 days before their planned release date if they don't want to get into a "conflict with the authorities controlling CBFC" and provide a timeframe for the revising committee. "Follow Hindi film industry and get the film censored much in advance. Else have to face the powers who will go to any extent to stop your film’s release," he warned, underlining the "tough times" for big-budget films if the "actors and directors are not in the good books of the controlling authorities."
Jana Nayagan, which has been facing censor woes since the of December 2025, has been pushed from its initial release of January 9. After a hearing before the Chief Justice of Madras HC on Friday following an appeal by the CBFC, the Court stayed the single judge's order made by Justice PT Asha earlier today which granted U/A 16+ certificate. The next hearing for the writ appeal is scheduled for January 21. With KVN Productions reportedly filing an appeal with the Supreme Court on Monday, a festive release seems unlikely for the H Vinoth-directorial.
Meanwhile, Parasakthi faced similar censor-related issues and was finally granted a U/A certificate by the CBFC on Friday. While it is on track to release for Saturday, January 10. several scenes from the Sudha Kongara-directorial have met the censor board's axe which includes muting and replacing of many words.
