Vetri Maaran, who last made Viduthalai Part 2, is currently working on Arasan, starring Silambarasan in the lead role. The officially confirmed cast members of the film include Vijay Sethupathi, Tourist Family-fame Yogalakshmi and Jibin Gopinath.

The filmmaker previously confirmed that the film is set in the Vada Chennai universe. Accordingly, Andrea and Samuthirakani are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming film. Now, Yogi Babu has confirmed that he has also joined the film's cast.

Speaking at the Behindwoods Gold Hall of Famers event, Yogi Babu confirmed his presence by saying, "I don't know if Arasan is a part of the Vada Chennai universe, but I am a part of the film. Simple, if STR [Silambarasan] sir is there, the film will be a sure-shot success."

Describing the film as "blast", he further revealed that he has an important character that travels throughout the film. However, he also said that it was too early to reveal more about his character.

The cast of Arasan is also set to reportedly feature Kishore reprising his role, along with newcomers Manikandan and Nelson. However, this still remains unconfirmed. Although they exist in the same universe, Dhanush's character Anbu is not a part of Arasan.

Arasan's screenplay is an iteration of the one the filmmaker had written for Vada Chennai when Silambarasan was in line to star in it. However, Dhanush soon came on board for Vada Chennai. The makers describe it as “an untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai". According to the first promo released a few weeks ago, the film is set to feature Silambarasan in two avatars: as a youngster and as an aged man.

Kalaipuli S Thanu is producing the film under his V Creations banner. It brings composer-singer Anirudh together with Silambarasan and director Vetri Maaran for the first time. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the film, including its plot, the rest of the cast, and the technical crew.
