Austin Butler and Jeremy Allen White are set to go head-to-head in Enemies, an upcoming crime saga from A24. Written and directed by Henry Dunham (The Standoff at Sparrow Creek, Bushido), the film will begin production in Chicago this summer.
Described as a gritty, psychological showdown, Enemies follows the tense collision between a determined detective and a notorious contract killer. The film promises a high-stakes game of cat and mouse as the two adversaries navigate a dark, dangerous underworld.
The project brings together an impressive team behind the scenes as well. Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen will produce via their Square Peg banner, alongside A24 and Alejandro De Leon. Josh Bachove joins as executive producer.
Butler, fresh off an Oscar nomination and recent projects with top-tier directors, reunites with Aster for Enemies after starring in the filmmaker’s upcoming feature Eddington. That film, a modern Western featuring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone, is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this week. Butler also leads Darren Aronofsky’s forthcoming crime drama Caught Stealing, alongside Matt Smith, Regina King, and Zoë Kravitz.
Allen White, meanwhile, continues to expand his filmography beyond his Emmy-winning role in The Bear, which returns this summer for its fourth season. He’s set to star as Bruce Springsteen in the anticipated biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere and will also appear in the Star Wars universe with the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu.
