After the critically and commercially successful film The Iron Claw, Sean Durkin has aligned with A24 for a new project, Deep Cuts, starring Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler in the lead roles. The film, an adaptation of Holly Brickley's debut novel, will be directed by Durkin from his own screenplay. Ronan is attached to the project as a producer as well.
Deep Cuts chronicles a romantic relationship between two individuals in their twenties who have a special liking for music. The narrative explores themes of belonging, ambition, and the complexities of adulthood within the culturally significant decade that is the 2000s.
Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, and Josh Safdie of Central are set to produce the film, along with Ronan.
Ronan's recent credits include appearances in Apple's Second World War drama Blitz and Sony Pictures Classics' The Outrun, both released in 2024.
Butler's 2024 also featured a series of prominent projects, including the Apple series Masters of the Air, as well as the feature films Dune: Part Two and The Bikeriders. Butler's upcoming projects include Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing as well.
