On Friday, Sivakarthikeyan, next helmed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan of Parking-fame, went on floors. Tentatively titled SK27, the film is backed by Sathya Jyothi Films. Initially, director Venkat Prabhu was on board to helm the actor's 27th film under the production banner. However, the latest announcement suggested that the project did not materialise.
Following the announcement, clippings of Gangai Amaran, Venkat Prabhu's father, speaking about the now-shelved project are being shared widely online. The veteran director, who was recently seen in Lenin Pandiyan, addressed why Venkat Prabhu's next directorial work hasn't begun yet, blaming one actor without naming him.
The filmmaker said he asked his son not to take up the film. Following the interview, netizens decoded that the actor being spoken about was Sivakarthikeyan, especially as Gangai Amaran said pre-production work for the film took place in the USA. When the film was initially announced, the filmmaker travelled overseas for a VFx test for the film.
On Monday, director Venkat Prabhu issued a clarification on the matter. "SK is always a dear friend/brother to me. A lot of speculations and controversies are going around. As a father, when a film involving your own son gets delayed, the frustration is natural. He probably doesn’t know the complete picture, and I can’t blame him for that," he started.
The GOAT director also said he doesn't discuss business with his father. "I’m a very quiet person when it comes to my work and don’t discuss my professional matters in detail with anyone, including him. The project couldn’t take off due to various reasons. That’s it. No hard feelings."
Furthermore, Venkat Prabhu wrote that he will do a film with Sivakarthikeyan in the future when the right script comes along. "If the time comes and a good script comes my way, I would love to work with SK again. So please, let’s put a full stop to all this. I’m busy with my next. My best wishes to my brother’s Seyon."
Sivakarthikeyan did a cameo in Vijay's GOAT in the film's climax scene. The actor is currently filming for Seyon and has SK27 with Ramkumar Balakrishnan in the pipeline.
