Director Sundar C's Mookuthi Amman 2 was released on Friday, marking the festive occasion of Deepavali. Starring Nayanthara, Urvashi, Regena Casandrra and Duniya Vijay in prominent roles, the film is the sequel to RJ Balaji's 2020 film of the same name. The film, upon release, has been receiving mixed reviews, with fans praising performances and visuals and expressing disappointment in the screenplay.
In the week before the release, Sundar C was busy promoting the film through press meets and interviews. In one such interview, the actor-filmmaker has opened up about the release date for his next, Purushan, starring Vishal, Yogi Babu and Tamannaah in lead roles.
In the interview, Sundar C has mentioned that Purushan has been completed and that it may be scheduled for release during Pongal. However, official confirmation from the film's makers is awaited. The upcoming film is the fourth collaboration between the actor and the director, which began in Aambala (2015).
If the film chooses the Pongal release window, it will be officially joining the race with Ajith Kumar's racing documentary, The Gladiators; VJ Siddhu's feature film directorial and lead actor debut, Dayangaram; and Pa Ranjith's next, Vettuvam. Additionally, speculations also suggest that Sivakarthikeyan's Seyon, Arulnithi's Demonte Colony 3, Kamal Haasan's Indian 3 and Vikram's Power House may also plan to capitalise on the festive holiday window.
Vishal and Sundar C have also worked on Madha Gaja Raja and Action apart from Aambala. Hiphop Tamizha will compose music for Purushan, reuniting with actors and the director again after Action (2019). Khushbu is producing Purushan under the Avni Cinemax banner, along with ACS Arun Kumar, who is producing under the Benzz Media banner.
