After a brief hiatus, Vetri Maaran's latest film Arasan is being shot in full swing with a massive set expected to be erected in ECR to recreate the Vada Chennai milieu for its final stage of filming. While the actioner has garnered massive anticipation since its announcement and promo video, much details regarding the characters have been kept under wraps.
While it has been confirmed that Vijay Sethupathi is set to play a cop, Andrea Jeremiah and Samuthirakani are reprising their roles from the Vada Chennai universe playing their iconic characters Chandra and Guna. Tourist Family-fame Yogalakshmi, who also plays a key role in the film, had recently confirmed her casting as Silambarasan's love interest during an awards show. While she had previously hinted at the same weeks ago, the actor's confirmation has added excitement among fans for her role as she was only seen briefly in Tourist Family.
Speaking about it, Yogalakshmi said, "I play STR's pair in the film. When this role was confirmed, I first informed my mother. She was very happy. I don't know what to say. I'm very excited."
Kishore is also expected to mark his return in Arasan. Additionally, Yogi Babu and Jibin Gopinath will play pivotal roles in the film. For the unversed, the film recently faced a brief setback amidst the escalation of a long-standing dispute between the actor and the Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu's producer, Ishari K Ganesh. After resolving them, the film resumed shoot at the end of April.
Although they exist in the same universe, Dhanush's character Anbu is not a part of Arasan. The film's screenplay is an iteration of the one the filmmaker had written for Vada Chennai when Silambarasan was in line to star in it. However, Dhanush soon came on board for Vada Chennai. The makers describe it as “an untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai". According to the first promo, the film is set to feature Silambarasan in two avatars: as a youngster and as an aged man.
Kalaipuli S Thanu is producing the film under his V Creations banner. It brings composer-singer Anirudh together with Silambarasan and director Vetri Maaran for the first time. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the film, including its plot, the rest of the cast, and the technical crew.
The makers of Arasan are aiming for a theatrical release on Deepavali.
