Dhanush's latest film Kara has opened its box office collections with a promising number. Helmed by Vignesh Raja in his sophomore directorial, the heist thriller minted Rs 5.75 crore on its first day in theatres across 4,172 shows, according to Sacnilk.
The Tamil version of the film, invariably earned more with Rs 4.65 crore with the Telugu-dubbed version too registering a decent start with Rs 1.10 crore. Night shows recorded the highest audience turnout, with occupancy crossing 35 per cent, followed by strong footfall during the morning and evening shows. With a strong start, Kara is expected cross the Rs 20 crore-mark by the weekend.
Kara has been written by Vignesh Raja as well as Alfred Prakash. The film has Dhanush playing Karasaami aka Kara, a robber during the Gulf War of 1991 which leads to a fuel crises in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film reads, "For the longest time, Kara gets this balance right, but once the petty thief decides to take a turn to become something bigger, like a hero… the film sacrifices itself for the seemingly greater good. However, it is anything but that, and Kara risks becoming the equivalent of pledging your land to buy a tractor during the Gulf War."
The cast features Mamitha Baiju as Selli, Jayaram as Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as Bharathan, and Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi as Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan as Murugesan. MS Bhaskar is also part of the film.
